Sand Storm

Sand Storm

No Hydro for 5 hours

March 15, 2017 in Landscape

Recently during an early afternoon wind storm, winds were reaching 110 km/hr. To be expected, this wreaked havoc on trees and buildings, and hydro lines. Many hydro customers in Southern Ontario were without hydro for several hours. Some didn't have hydro again until noon the next day. I was lucky and was only out for 5 hours. So what else does one do when the hydro is out, other than go out and take some photographs.

I set out to find some ducks, some Mergansers specifically, that I had seen on my travels without a camera. When I came across them without the camera, they were right along the road. A perfect position for some great photographs. But of course as it always goes, when I had my camera they were a long way out in the water. Even too far for my 150-600mm lens. This was probably due to the high winds. The winds were so high, they just about knocked me over, and that's no easy feat. So with no success there, I carried on to my next promising location. But this was the same result. So no pictures of ducks or any other water fowl.

But on my way to the second location, I passed through a sand storm. The sand blowing across the road caused the visibility to be as low as if there was a blizzard. Not great for driving, or the camera equipment, but it led to a great photo opportunity. So I snapped a few pictures, until I figured my camera was dirty enough, and moved on. And as I continued my drive, I couldn't help but notice the great looking sky. So I pulled over again to take some more pictures.

So even when things don't work out for what you were looking for, there are always other opportunities.

The great sky!

The great sky!
